Calcot ParkGolf Club
Over 150 Calcot Members, their friends and guests turned up to support the Cancer Charity Day organised by Andy Scholes with the tremendous help from Club Professionals, Lewis Bird, Tim Newton and Alex Lodge, his family and friends and the golf club's staff. The format was a Team Greensomes Stableford which suited the day the perfectly. Coffee and bacon rolls to start and very buffet afterwards. The day was arranged to relieve you of your money, in the nicest way possible. There was a raffle draw with a huge number of quality prizes to won, you could purchase a 'Mulligan' balloon and tee pegs were on sale to mark where you thought Andy's ceremonial drive would end up.
In all this was probably one of the best charity days the golf club has seen in many years, extremely well supported by the members and in aid of a popular fellow member who, along with his family and friends, are doing their best to cope with this dreadful disease. Film celebrity, Gareth Unwin-Ellis, was on top form as Auctioneer in selling each the Lots for many hundreds of pounds including fourball vouchers for some very nice golf courses, a signed Arsenal FC shirt, and even to accomapany Gareth, himself, to the Film Premiere of his latest film, in London later this year. The Auction amassed several thousand pounds to swell the total amount raised on the day to £14,000.
