You may have noticed black algae
on the surface of the greens. One of the main causes for this appearing is
due to the wet and humid weather conditions experienced recently where the
greens have not had a chance to dry out sufficiently.
A treatment of sulphate of iron
and drier conditions should control the problem.
It is also planned to spike the
greens using micro tines. This will help move moisture away from the surface
and aerate the soil.

repair pitch marks and replace divots
Previous Reports:
We have recently had our annual visit
from the Club’s appointed agronomist.
He was asked to focus his time on looking at the bunkers with the view
to bringing consistency throughout the course.
To achieve this he recommended that
we did not change the sand but continue the works that we have already being
carrying out over the past few weeks with the emphasis on heavier raking and
cultivating when compaction becomes an issue.
This will also help with the ‘ponding’
problems after heavy rainfall. Our
objective is to produce a bunker with loose sand over a firm base. Some
bunkers however have too much sand in them and
therefore will need more time spent on them to reach our goal.
With regard to the greens he was pleased with their
condition and advised us to continue with our ongoing maintenance program.
The areas of torn grass in the semi rough were looked at
and a program of works will commence in the autumn.
We are also this autumn looking to transplant semi
mature trees into positions where we feel some of our mature trees will need
replacing.
We
would appreciate your input by repairing pitch marks, replacing divots and
raking bunkers to help keep the course up to a premier standard.
